Dell Inspiron E1505 here. Got it for college a year ago. Is has held up nicely and performs well, except one of the hinges is starting to break. Not sure why - kinda disappointed with the physical strength and ability to absorb shock. I heard apples are more sturdy - just another reason for me to move to apple i guess...

I would agree with monkeitech. although laptops do have the capabilities to play games now, i think that is still up to the desktops. the point of a laptop is to be portable and convenient. if you add a huge hard drive, video and sound cards, lots of memory, etc, it becomes bulky. I would say in maybe 5 years, laptops will be equal to desktops.
