God is a fictional story. However, Jak, the "Playing God" expression is just that: an expression.
Anyway, I think we should be more concerned about reducing the population before we begin cloning. Honestly, the human population is out of control, and if we could eliminate a good portion (Oh, eliminating 60% would be good for us), we'd be better off. It may sound cruel, but it's really what the world needs. Our population is on the limits of out of control. According to my research, we could sustain roughly 13 billion people on Earth, assuming we find an alternative fuel (ethanol is worse for the environment than natural gas will ever be) and alternative electricity sources (i.e, not coal or fossil fuels).
Seeing that the world is embracing ethanol as an alternative fuel, that number will actually be much smaller. Ethanol, as I"m sure you all know comes from organic material. However, in growing ethanol and harvesting land, we actually release all of the CO2 in the area that we're using for our harvest. At the rate we're cutting down forests for "ethanol farms", we will double the amount of CO2 and other GHGs released into the environment in 2023.
All of this plays a role in how much life Earth can sustain. We don't know how much it can sustain to the dot because the factors are constantly shifting. The sooner we impose laws that limit the amount of children you can have the better. We only need enough children to sustain the population, not make it increase.
